His star never really rose in the Premier League. That’s why Naby Keita (25) is facing Liverpool.
According to English media reports, the midfielder should leave the club by 2023 in the summer, despite a contract. Together with five other Liverpool players (including Lovren, Origi), he should be on a list that coach Jürgen Klopp (52) wants to get rid of at the end of the season.
Is Keita coming back to Leipzig?
The national player from Guinea-Bissau switched from RB Leipzig to Anfield Road for 65 million euros two years ago. Club boss Oliver Mintzlaff had negotiated the transfer. A record for the bulls that still holds.
What would speak for a return: Keita had its best time in Leipzig and still enjoys cult status. With his extremely strong first season, he led the club directly to the Champions League as a climber.
His return would be a transfer exclamation mark that RB would send to the top clubs across Europe.
What speaks against: At 25, Keita is now outside the Leipzig age limit (maximum 24). He would come as a ready star, was not free of allure (driving license affair) when he left.
It is probably crucial that Keita would have to make large cuts in salary (estimated 12 million euros). That would not be possible for RB at all.
Not to mention the transfer fee, which probably should not be less than 50 million euros …
