The Vatican in a statement Thursday (2/12/2021) officially announced Aupetit’s resignation.

The alleged intimate scandal was first reported by a French magazine; Point, on November 22, 2021.
Aupetit also released a statement after the Vatican announced its decision to step down as Archbishop of Paris.
“I am, of course, deeply disturbed by the attack I experienced,” Aupetit said in a statement CNN, Friday (12/3/2021).
“I ask for forgiveness from those I may have hurt and I assure you of all my deep friendship and my prayers, that it will always be yours.”
According to the Le Point report, the alleged relationship came to light because of a love email Aupetit sent to his secretary by accident in 2012, when he was Vicar General of Paris.
Despite admitting in the article Point that his behavior may be ambiguous, implying an intimate and sexual relationship between them, but Aupetit categorically denies that anything actually happened between him and the woman in question.
