In an apartment in Kinzigtal, a young man from Lahr is said to have held an 18-year-old from Berlin for several days and raped her several times. She was found by the police on Friday – according to the accused’s lawyer, in an apartment in Steinach (Ortenaukreis). The 22-year-old man has been in custody ever since and firmly denies the allegations, according to his lawyer.
The young woman from Berlin disappeared without a trace last week. Friends and relatives reported her missing on Tuesday. Finally, the Berlin police found evidence that she could be in Ortenau.
Blank gun seized during apartment search
Yannik Hilger, spokesman for the Offenburg police headquarters, reports that the Berlin colleagues asked for administrative assistance. Police officers from Haslach then checked the apartment in Kinzigtal on Friday. There they came across the missing woman and the accused from Lahr. It is said that there was no danger to the officers or the two people involved. However, the suspicion arose on site that the young woman may have been the victim of a crime, said Hilger. The police arrested the accused on site. He offered no resistance, they say. Additional patrols, detectives and forensic investigators were called in. During the subsequent search of the apartment, they seized a blank gun.
Police evaluate cell phone data
The accused’s apartment and car are now being examined for forensic purposes. An investigative group is currently evaluating cell phones and other data carriers to find out more about the relationship between the 18-year-old and the 22-year-old suspect from Lahr. Interviews with friends and relatives are next on the agenda. The investigators from Offenburg work closely with colleagues from Berlin.
The nature of the relationship is still unclear
The police report that the victim and the accused knew each other from a vacation. The man is said to have visited the young woman in Berlin at the beginning of last week. According to police spokesman Hilger, the two spent some time together there before the man pressured the woman to accompany him to Ortenau – possibly with the help of a firearm.
In Steinach, where the woman is said to have been held, people waver between horror and disbelief.
