Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said: Adolf Hitler are of Jewish descent. Lavrov’s statement immediately made a commotion in Israel.
Reported from Reuters, Tuesday (3/5/2022), Israel said Lavrov’s remarks were an ‘unforgivable’ lie that belittled the horrors of the Nazi Holocaust. Leaders of several Western countries also criticized Lavrov’s remarks.
The Israeli Foreign Ministry also called the Russian ambassador and demanded an apology.
“Such lies are meant to accuse the Jews themselves of the most horrific crimes in history committed against them,” said Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett.
“The use of the Holocaust of Jews for political purposes must stop immediately,” he added.
Lavrov’s statement
Lavrov made the remarks on Italian television last Sunday when asked why Russia said it needed to ‘denazify’ Ukraine, when President Volodymyr Zelensky is a Jew.
“When they say ‘What kind of Naziification is this if we are Jews’, I think Hitler also had Jewish origins, so it doesn’t mean anything,” Lavrov told the Rete 4 channel, speaking through an Italian translator.
“For a long time we have heard wise Jews say that the greatest anti-Semites are the Jews themselves,” he added.
