READ THE GIS MESSAGE

The manufacturer, exercising caution, decided to recall not only the indicated batch in which the non-compliance was found, but also a wider range of products, i.e. cheese produced before June 30, 2020 and after July 11, 2020. It also suspended production until further notice.

In turn, Lidl, who is a distributor of the product, has placed a message about the recall of the batch from the market in stores and on the website and removed the goods from the shelves (the production date is also the batch number).

GIS advised that the products listed in the alert should be discarded or returned to the store where they were purchased. Food poisoning may be caused by the consumption of cheese contaminated with pathogenic microorganisms detected in the test. In case of symptoms, consult a doctor.

Listeriosis is a threat mainly to pregnant women, newborns and immunocompromised people. Its etiological factor is Listeria monocytogenes. Listeria bacteria are excreted in the faeces of infected animals.

How is it infected?

Human infection occurs as a result of direct contact with the secretions of an infected animal (including cattle, sheep, goats, poultry), or through the consumption of contaminated food. The gastrointestinal tract, damaged skin, mucous membranes and placenta are the gateways of infection.

symptoms:

  • After an incubation period of about 3 weeks, pregnant women develop flu-like symptoms or symptoms resulting from inflammation of the urinary tract. The infection may lead to fetal death and miscarriages or congenital listeriosis in the newborn.
  • Most adults do not have any symptoms of infection.
  • In elderly and immunocompromised people, infection may lead to meningitis, inflammation of the brain and sepsis.

Prevention of infection mainly consists of:

  • application of appropriate protective measures on animal farms,
  • compliance with hygiene rules at every stage of the food preparation process.
  • remember to wash your hands each time, e.g. before eating, after contact with animals, after leaving the toilet.

Antibiotics are used to treat listeriosis.
