all the things that Apple didn’t announce last week

You will have noticed: last week was the week of WWDC20. Apple announced iOS 14, macOS Big Sur, watchOS 7, the switch to its own processor, tvOS 14, HomeKit improvements and iPadOS 14, among others.

The Cupertino company had a lot to say, but there are certainly things that have not been discussed last week. We list them for you.

WWDC20: Apple did not announce these things

We are now used to the rumors for a big event like WWDC20 flying crazy through the corridors. For example, many things were announced last week that were previously discussed, but there are also discussed many things that Apple didn’t show.

Hardware during WWDC20

In the corridors there was talk about the fact that Apple would show hardware during WWDC20. Normally, the Cupertino company does not already do this, but this year there would be an exception to the rule. Nothing could be further from the truth.

AirPods Studio

Of all the products that Apple might show during WWDC20, there was the most confidence in the AirPods Studio. Several rumors indicated that the Cupertino company would finally show the over-ear headphones. The headphones may feature noise cancellation, excellent sound quality and a sleek design. But we do not yet know whether this is really the case.

Apple did show innovations for the current AirPods (Pro).

AirTags

AirTags, Apple’s tile-like trackers, should also see the light of day during WWDC20. That has not happened and questions immediately arise. When do the AirTags see the light of day?

New iMac

The closer we got to WWDC20, the more it seemed to leak out a new iMac. Apple could have just shown the new computer at the event, but the Cupertino company did not.

A new iMac may have a design that likely matches that of the Pro Display XDR or iPad Pro.

New iPad Air and iPad mini

Apple was expected to show two new iPad models during WWDC20. It was an iPad Air with the design of an iPad Pro and a new iPad mini with an 8-inch display.

There was a nice grain of salt over this expectation. It was expected from the beginning that these two new iPad models would appear in the second half of 2020. Only if Apple decided to launch these two iPad models earlier would we see them during WWDC20. So that has not been the case.

In fact, it is rumored that the iPad mini will only see the light of day in 2021.

Renewed Apple TV

An update of the Apple TV is planned, which seems to be certain by now. This would feature an A12x or A12Z processor, carry the same design as the current model and offer 64GB / 128GB of storage capacity.

Anyway. It stays with rumors, because an official announcement was nowhere to be seen last week.

HomePod mini of HomePod 2

You no longer have to tell that the hardware is good with the HomePod. That some improvements are welcome in the field of software are also not. The hope was that Apple would show something in that area during WWDC20, but unfortunately this was not an issue. The announcement of the HomePod 2 or HomePod mini was also not forthcoming.

Software and services during WWDC20

We did not have any shortcomings in software during WWDC20. From iOS 14 to macOS Big Sur, we all got to see it. And yet something was missing.

Blood oxygen meter for the Apple Watch

Considering that a blood oxygen meter for the Apple Watch most likely requires hardware modifications, it makes sense that we haven’t seen the functionality. But still Apple could have announced it for watchOS 7. For example, Apple also announced last week that Force Touch will disappear from the smartwatches, which can refer to an Apple Watch without support.

In that respect, we had secretly hoped for word about the functionality. But unfortunately nothing was further from the truth.

Bundle with services

The corridors also discussed a bundle of different services. For example, Apple Music, News +, Arcade and TV + might be cheaper to obtain for the consumer. Unfortunately, nothing about that either.

But as said, Apple has shown many things. Curious about everything the Cupertino company showed during WWDC20? Check out our dedicated page to the event here.
