All the new measures at a glance: curfews, catering closed, close contacts limited and no Christmas markets

View: Prime Minister De Croo clarifies new corona measures

All new measures in a row

• All cafes in restaurants must be from Monday four weeks close. Takeaway of meals is still possible until 10 pm. The measure would be evaluated after two weeks. There will be an extensive support package for the affected cases, says Prime Minister Alexander De Croo.

• There will also be one nationwide from Monday curfew, from midnight to 5 a.m. Nobody is allowed on the street. beside there will also be one ban on the sale of alcohol after 20 hours.

• Also the number close contacts becomes drastic limited. From now on, everyone outside their own family may only have one close so-called ‘cuddle contact’. Each family can also receive four people at home every two weeks, as long as the social distance is guaranteed there.

Telework is mandatory from Monday “as far as that is possible”, it sounds. “But the continuity of business operations must not be compromised.” Making teleworking compulsory would, among other things, reduce the pressure on public transport. Where teleworking is not possible, “everything must be done so that employees can do so in a safe way”, says Prime Minister De Croo.

Christmas markets and flea markets should not take place. “Sad as it is, but the Christmas markets are inviting the virus to wander,” he said. Markets and small fairs will remain open, but the consumption of drinks and food will be prohibited.

The new measures will take effect from Monday. “But nothing prevents us from limiting our contacts as much as possible and keeping our distance,” concludes De Croo. New measures for culture and sports will only be introduced in a week.

The basic rules

The basic rules of course continue to apply:

• Keep five feet away. If that is not possible, then you wear a mouth mask, such as in the shops, on the bus, on the tram or train and also in streets and squares where it is very busy.

• Limit close contacts and organize outdoor activities as much as possible.

• Wash hands regularly and use a handkerchief only once.
