The Bundestag votes on compulsory vaccination for medical staff. The AfD chairman Alice Weidel is not there because of a positive corona test.

Update from Friday, December 10th, 2021, 2:05 p.m .: AfD chairwoman Alice Weidel was unable to take part in the vote on group-specific vaccination due to a positive corona test. The 42-year-old announced this on Friday (December 10th, 2021) on Twitter and added that she would be given a second test for verification. It was decided that medical personnel should be vaccinated.

The AfD positions itself against compulsory vaccination in Germany. In this context, Weidel recently drew attention to himself with false statements about the pandemic situation. Most recently, the AfD MP Beatrix von Storch received a positive test result for the corona virus and was then unable to take part in the election for chancellor. Weidel also said he had previously been infected with SARS-CoV-2.

First report from Thursday, December 9th, 2021, 11:16 am: Frankfurt – On Wednesday (December 8th, 2021) the election of the new Federal Chancellor took place in a Bundestag session: Alice Weidel, the chairwoman of the AfD, was there. During a break from the meeting, Weidel conducted an interview with Phoenix journalist Erhard Scherfer and directly vented her displeasure with the subject of corona vaccinations and mandatory vaccinations.

Weidel’s excitement was triggered by specific questions from Scherfer. This had focused on the subject of corona vaccinations. Weidel said that people could not be forced to vaccinate and that such a request was counterproductive. The AfD politician went on to say that there are many citizens who are currently waiting for a dead vaccine against the corona virus. Her argument culminated in the statement that she too would not be “told by any unsuspecting politicians” what to do about her own health.

AfD chairman Alice Weidel comments on corona vaccinations

According to the editorial network Germany, the reason for Scherfer’s penetrating inquiries regarding the corona vaccinations were several statements by Weidel. The AfD politician spoke of the fact that the vaccines that had previously been approved were not enough for her because people would “still get sick”. Weidel threw off Scherfer’s objection that unvaccinated people in particular were cared for in the intensive care units of hospitals. This statement is also incorrect – “the numbers are not correct,” she said in an interview.

However, the Phoenix journalist continued to investigate and asked the AfD chairman where she got her data. Weidel referred to “destatis”, the website of the Federal Statistical Office. Quite an embarrassment, because a short time later the counter-declaration came that they did not have this data. “We don’t have any data on the vaccination status of intensive care patients,” wrote the Federal Statistical Office on Twitter.

Weidel is refuted: Majority of Covid-19 intensive care patients: no vaccinated people inside

In the fact check of the RND it quickly becomes clear that not only Weidel’s source, but also her statement is incorrect. With a look at the official data of the Robert Koch Institute, the claim can quickly be refuted: The numbers of Covid intensive care patients are provided by the RKI in the weekly report.

The number of Covid-19 patients: sorted by age in intensive care units:

  • 12 to 17 years: 4 cases in total, 0 of them fully vaccinated (0% vaccination breakthroughs)
  • 18 to 59 years: 598 cases in total, 94 of them fully vaccinated (15.7% vaccination breakthroughs)
  • 60 years and older: 1119 cases in total, of which 498 were fully vaccinated (44.5% vaccination breakthroughs)
  • Those: Weekly COVID-19 management report from December 2nd, 2021, RKI

According to the data from the RKI, the majority of Covid 19 intensive care patients consists of unvaccinated people or people who have not completed vaccination protection.

AfD rates current corona rules in Germany as excessive

As reported by the dpa, the AfD chairwoman Weidel complained about Scherfer’s tireless questions. When the latter replied that he had not found your statements on vaccination skepticism convincing, Weidel only replied: “And your questions are also not convincing.”

Your party colleagues René Springer and Beatrix von Storch were not present at the Bundestag session. Both said they tested positive for Sars-CoV-2 and were in quarantine on Wednesday. Weidel also said he was infected with the corona virus in November and has since recovered.

The prevailing corona rules in Germany are viewed by the AfD parliamentary group as excessive. Some MPs from the party followed the meeting from a platform. The reason for this is the lack of evidence of a vaccination, recovery or a negative corona test. (jey)
