Algiers – Franco-Algerian actor and director Djemel Barek died on the night of Thursday to Friday, at the age of 57, following a long illness reported his relatives on social networks.

Beginning his artistic career in the theater first, where it had been distributed in plays by the great Robert Hossein and Michel Georges, Djemel Barek then confirmed his talents as an actor in French cinema, with around sixty television films to his credit. , between feature films and short films, as well as in series, often interpreting the character of the “Maghrebian” or of the “immigrant father”, in roles of compositions “moving and successful”.

Known for his many supporting roles in French cinema, the actor has, since 1999, played in great films, French and foreign, like “Munich” by Steven Spielberg, “Des hommes Libres” by Ismaël Ferroukhi, “Les RevENTS” by Robin Campillo, “Secret Défense” by Philippe Haim, “Frères Enemies” by David Oelhoffen and “Loin des hommes” by the same director, presented in 2014 during the Algiers Cinematographic Days.

In 2005 Djemel Barek staged his first play “Not My Molière” before repeating the experience in 2009 with “Luciole”. He also often shone on the boards as an actor between 1987 and 2007.
