According to the results of 2019, Toyota and Lexus cars became the most stolen in the capital – their owners most often turned to Alfa Insurance for hull compensation in connection with the theft.
In total, the top 10 in terms of theft frequency included four Toyota car models and three Lexus ones. Toyota Camry (0.68%) turned out to be the most “demanded” among hijackers, and Lexus LX (0.54%) came in second. The third and fourth positions were taken by Toyota Land Cruiser (0.53%) and Toyota Land Cruiser Prado (0.50%). Closes the top five in popularity among hijackers is the Toyota RAV4 car (0.34%), which first entered the rating.
Also, Hyundai Santa FE, Lexus NX, KIA Rio, Lexus RX and BMW 5-series often became victims of kidnappers last year.
“Japanese and Korean cars are traditionally the most“ favorite ”of criminals. Hijackers use more budget models, as a rule, for spare parts, and luxury cars are resold. At the same time, Lexus LX and Toyota Camry are among the three leaders in hijacking in Moscow and Moscow region for the fourth consecutive year. One of the most high-risk are leasing cars, theft of which is often specially staged, for driving cars to neighboring countries. Attackers acquire premium models on a lease basis, insure them, and then take them out of Russia, ”says Alexander Kharagezov, director of the insurance payment department of Alfa Insurance.
Most often, cars are still stolen at night from parking lots in the courtyards of residential buildings, and during the day – at shopping centers. Among the most common methods of hijacking is breaking doors or an ignition switch. Also, in order to enter the cabin and start the car, thieves often break the glass of the door.
