Leader of the Opposition To Alexei Navalny the body has been handed over to his mother. This is explained by Navalny’s spokesperson Count Jarmyš message service in X.

– Aleksei’s body was given to his mother. A big thank you to all of you who demanded it together with us.

– At the moment [Navalnyin äiti] Lyudmila Ivanovna is in Salehard. The funeral is still ahead. We don’t know if the authorities will try to prevent them from being organized the way the relatives want and as Aleksei deserves.

Formerly Navalny’s widow Yulia Navalny said that the president of Russia Vladimir Putin had personally ordered that the body should not be given to the family.

According to Navalny’s mother, the prison authorities had threatened to bury Navalny in the prison yard.

– You tortured him alive, now you torture him dead, Yulia Navalny said in the video, according to the Moscow Times.

Jarmyš also said that the Russian authorities had pressured and blackmailed Navalny’s mother. It had been demanded of the mother that the funeral should be held secretly without public goodbyes.

Russian authorities announced Navalny’s death last Saturday. According to a prisoner serving his sentence in the same prison, he would have died earlier.
