Alec Baldwin indicted on manslaughter charges in death of Galina Hutchins on set of ‘Rust’ movie

A New Mexico grand jury has indicted actor Alec Baldwin on manslaughter charges in the death of cameraman Galina Hutchins on the set of the movie “Rust.” About it reports The New York Times.

Previous charges of manslaughter were dropped against the actor at the end of April 2023 – two weeks before the start of the trial.

Since notes BBC News, prosecutors said “additional facts” had emerged. Prosecutors, in particular, conducted an additional examination of the revolver from which Hutchins was killed. She testified that the shot could only have occurred when the trigger was pulled. The actor claimed that he did not do this.

If found guilty, Baldwin faces up to 18 months in prison.

“We are fully prepared for trial,” Baldwin’s lawyer told the BBC.

Cameraman Galina Hutchins died on the set of the film Rust in October 2021. She was killed by a shot from a revolver, which Baldwin used in the film. The gun, which was used as a prop, turned out to be loaded with live ammunition.

In an interview with ABC, Baldwin said that he rehearsed one of the scenes with Hutchins, she told him at what angle to hold the gun. The actor, according to him, had to cock the trigger, but not shoot. “I cocked the hammer and the gun fired. I didn’t pull the trigger, no, no, no, no, no. I would never point a gun at a person and pull the trigger,” Baldwin said.
