Alec Baldwin: I don’t feel responsible for fatal shooting incident | Abroad

Baldwin answered without hesitation when asked if he felt guilty. “New. No,” said the movie star. “I might have killed myself if I thought I was responsible. And I don’t say that lightly.” He also does not know who is responsible. “Someone is responsible, and I can’t say who that is, but I know it’s not me.” Baldwin also does not expect to be prosecuted.

big ramparts

There were stories of heavy workloads and safety issues on set. But Baldwin, himself producer of this film, does not recognize himself in that. He was also criticized because according to some colleagues he should have checked the weapon again.

But that task, according to Baldwin, is for the weapons expert on set. “The actor’s responsibility is to do what the expert says.” That real bullet shouldn’t even have been near the set. According to Baldwin, there is only one question that remains: “Where did that real bullet come from.”

Baldwin looked tired, with small eyes and large bags under his eyes. The incident haunts him, he says. “I constantly dream about it. I drag myself through the day, and then at the end of the day, I collapse.” It could also be that this was Baldwin’s last film. “It could be over,” he said when asked about his film career.

Chaos

When Baldwin got hold of the gun, he was told it was a “cold gun,” he said. “That means there is no real ammunition in it. There may be blanks in it, but the message is really: you can relax, this is not dangerous.”

The actor did not pull the trigger. “I let go of the hammer, and then the gun went off.” Then chaos ensued, Baldwin says. “Everyone was shocked. The weapon should have been empty. It was extremely loud when it went off. No one had their earplugs in either.”

Hutchins fell to the ground. At first, Baldwin didn’t understand what had happened. “I thought she fainted? The thought that there was a real bullet in that weapon only dawned on me half an hour to three quarters of an hour later. Nobody understood what was happening.”

Tears

Baldwin sobbed twice during the interview. The first time was when it was about the late Hutchins. “She was loved by everyone and admired.” Then he put his hands to his face and the tears came. “I’m sorry,” he said of the emotion shown. Later the tears came again when he talked about the making of the film. “This film made me enjoy filming again.”

Baldwin wants to set a few things straight with the interview. “There are some misunderstandings,” he said of the reports that came out after the shooting. And the results of the police investigation will be a long time coming, he expects. “I really feel like I can’t wait that long until that whole process is over in February or even March.” He paused. “I would do anything to undo what happened.”

The interview was a preview of a two-hour special that will air on ABC next week. It goes into more detail about the shooting incident. Fragments of Baldwin’s interview are also shown there.
