Albrandswaards Dagblad | Last week, eight people died from coronavirus

The coronavirus took eight lives last week. It is the lowest number of deaths per week in recent months. One patient died last Tuesday, two people died on Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday, and one person succumbed to infection on Sunday. According to current figures from the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM), no one died last Monday and Thursday.

A week earlier, Monday, June 15 through Sunday, June 21, 24 people had died from the virus. That amounts to an average of three to four deaths a day. The previous week, June 8-14, 31 people died of the virus. 54 patients died in the first seven days of June.

The corona crisis was at its peak in late March and early April. In week 14 of the year, the week from March 30 to April 5, 1166 people died of corona. A week later, the virus claimed 1028 lives. These are the people who are known to have had the virus among the members and died of it. The actual number of deaths is probably higher, because certainly not everyone was tested in those weeks.

Tuesday is day 125 of the corona outbreak in the Netherlands. The virus was first detected on February 27. On March 6, day 9 of the outbreak, the first patient died, an 86-year-old man from Oud-Beijerland in South Holland. On March 10, a long period began in which people died every day. That series was broken only after more than a hundred days. Monday, June 22, was the first day in more than three months when no one died of the virus.
