Albert will raise wages in stores from the New Year

“I am very pleased that there has been an agreement in collective bargaining and that employees will be rewarded for their hard work,” said Renáta Burianová, President of the Union of Employees of Trade, Logistics and Services.

On average, there will be a six percent increase in wages, with a minimum guaranteed increase of three percent. “An increase of at least 3 percent will prevent a drop in real wages, and this is very important for the unions at this time,” Burian added.

According to the latest data from the Czech Statistical Office (CSO), the year-on-year inflation rate is 3.2 percent.

The 3,000-strong bonus follows the extraordinary rewards that employees received during the spring emergency. According to the chain, rewards were paid “in the thousands with a total cost of 70 million crowns”.

Albert is one of the largest private employers in the Czech Republic. It operates more than 300 stores and three distribution centers. In total, it employs about 17,000 people.

The competing retail chain Lidl has also increased the salaries of cashiers and salespeople since March this year. The full-time starting salary increased nationwide to 28,571 crowns. After three years, cashiers and salespeople should earn 32,000. In Prague, where prices are higher, the starting salary reaches CZK 30,857 and the salary after three years reaches CZK 34,286.
