The manuscript has 54 pages and was co-written by his confidant and collaborator Michele Besso. It is only one of two surviving manuscripts that served to develop the general theory of relativity. According to Christie’s, it originated in 1913 and 1914 in Berlin and Zurich.
Previous records for a manuscript by Einstein were $2.8 million in 2018 and $1.56 million in 2017. It was also the highest sum bid for a scholarly manuscript today. Christie’s didn’t share who has groped so hard in their pockets.
