ALARM signal from doctors: Young Romanians, affected by diseases of old age. Stroke and myocardial infarction, even at age 30 – News by sources

Alarm signal from doctors. More and more young people eat poorly, are obese, sedentary, have high cholesterol, smoke from an early age and consume banned substances. The age at which the heart attack occurs has greatly decreased. In our country, 60% of deaths are caused by cardiovascular diseases, according to data from the Romanian Society of Cardiology, notes telem.ro.

Romania is among the first countries in Europe in terms of incidence and mortality caused by myocardial infarction and stroke. The age at which these problems occur has dropped dramatically, to 30 years, doctors warn.

Florin Mitu, head of the Cardiovascular Recovery Clinic: “It is an increase, not only of myocardial infarction, in general of cardiovascular pathology, I mean here hypertension, strokes, but also myocardial infarction is increasing, because unfortunately this lifestyle a little unhealthy, in which most or many young people smoke, have an inadequate diet, this fast food, carbonated drinks and incentives. On the other hand, there are certainly people who have cardiovascular heredity and then we must be very careful about these risk factors.”.

The causes are stress, smoking and poor nutrition. Doctors recommend the prevention and performance of medical examinations, since childhood.

Florin Mitu, head of the Cardiovascular Recovery Clinic: „The evaluation of people must start from childhood and especially from people at risk. I am referring here to people with obesity, with these risk factors, they must be evaluated periodically and of course in the situation of detecting pathologies, they must be treated in time, as we say, preventively. We often detect patients with high cholesterol, who did not know about high evaluations, we detect people with high blood sugar without knowing that they have diabetes. Not to mention the high blood pressure we see in younger and younger people. So watch out for obesity, watch out for those who smoke, watch out for those who have changes in metabolism, especially cholesterol”.

Doctors are alarmed by the growing number of young people who arrive at the hospital with myocardial infarction. At the same time, strokes are common in patients between the ages of 20 and 45.

Tudor Ciuhodaru, primary care physician in emergency medicine: „It appears more and more in young people, especially those who are professionally active, stressed by the pandemic period. Socio-economic difficulties are an additional risk factor, but let’s not forget that this constellation includes high blood pressure, metabolic diseases, obesity, smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, and to prevent such a situation that may have consequences. It is extremely important for health education to be taught in school, because only addressing a healthy lifestyle, as we should do, can be the prevention solution for such a thing.”.

Women are more prone to stroke, the age at which such a problem occurs being older. The first signs of stroke are the relatively sudden onset of a hemibody motor deficit, aphasia, vision problems, severe headache or coma.

Tudor Ciuhodaru, primary care physician in emergency medicine: „The number of cases in women under 30 is constantly increasing, and unfortunately ladies and young ladies tend to neglect some seemingly minor symptoms such as headaches, numbness, discomfort and are often in critical condition. our emergency unit, when the chances of intervening therapeutically and ensuring a full recovery are extremely low”.
