No Saudi Pro League this Monday evening but the Saudi Arabian Super Cup took place. After the qualification of Karim Benzema’s Al Ittihad earlier in the evening, Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al Nassr faced Malcolm’s Al Hilal, on the lawn of the Mohammed Bin Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi for a real clash between two behemoths of Saudi football. After a fairly dull first period although balanced between the two teams, it was Jorge Jesus’ players who shifted into second gear to lock in the victory (2-1). Indeed, in the second half, the domination was mainly in favor of Al Hilal who managed to open the scoring thanks to Salem Al-Dawsari, the team captain (61st).

A few minutes later, the former FC Barcelona player, Malcolm, doubled the lead to protect his team (72nd). Despite a great David Ospina, author of six saves, Al Nassr failed to overcome Al Hilal in this semi-final of the Saudi Arabia Super Cup, even if Cristiano Ronaldo had several opportunities to shake the nets. The Portuguese was even sent off (86th) for violent behavior, which caused the start of a fight. Sadio Mané still saved the honor at the end of the match (90th + 9), in vain. Next step: the grand final of the competition against Al Ittihad, scheduled for this week, April 11 to be precise.
