Al-Hilal Saudi Football Club Makes Record-Breaking Signing

Al-Hilal Saudi Football Club announced – yesterday, Monday – that it had signed international player Hassan Timbukti, coming from Al-Shabab Club, in a deal that local media said would be the most expensive in the history of Saudi players.

And Al-Hilal published a video clip on the “X” social networking platform – formerly known as Twitter – of the player in the Al-Hilal shirt saying, “In the end, I am Hilal.”

Al-Hilal wrote on his page on the social networking site “X” that, “Timbukti… Hilali for four years… until the end of the 2027 season.”

Timbukti became the eighth summer deal for Al Hilal after Moroccan goalkeeper Yassine Bono, Brazilians Neymar and Malcolm, Senegalese Khalido Coulibaly, Serbians Sergey Milinkovic-Savic and Alexander Mitrovic, and Portuguese Robin Neves.

Timbukti has defended the youth first-team jersey since 2018, during a career that included him being loaned to Al-Wahda during the 2019-2020 season.

He played 51 matches with Al-Shabab in total, while he played with Al-Wehda only 8 matches.

Timbukti was with the Saudi national team in the Qatar 2022 World Cup, and he participated mainly in the squad that shocked Lionel Messi and his comrades in the Argentine national team by beating them 2-1 in the first round of the group stage, before losing later to Poland and Mexico with one score, 0-2, and exiting the group stage.

Fans’ reactions varied on social media. As Al-Hilal fans expressed their satisfaction with the deal, including Muhammad, who said, “It is said in the streets of Riyadh that even a drop of water does not enter the penalty area with the presence of Hassan Timbukti.”

As for Amr, he described the deal as historic for Al-Hilal club, and tweeted, saying: “I am completely convinced that Hassan is the best Saudi player, and the player who had a great opportunity for professionalism and success. I fully believe that adding Hassan is as if you brought a foreign player with excellent quality, but the difference is that Hassan is a Saudi player.” He will not take the place of the foreigner, Hassan Timbukti Hilali, a big deal.

On the other hand, the deal disturbed the fans of Al-Shabab Club, including the activist Mohamed, who expressed his sadness, saying, “It is sad that the moment the youth fans come to the club to demand that Timbukti’s transfer be prevented, the confirmed news of the player’s signing for Al-Hilal comes out.”

Among the tweeters were those who commented on the value of the deal, including Nawaf Al-Assi, “Frankly and far from passion and inclinations, 138 million riyals… Does Hassan Timbukti deserve it?”
