Those interested will have the opportunity to watch two theatrical performances live on the museum’s Facebook page – at 15.00 Jānis Liepiņš’s fun game “Fights with the Bad” and at 19.00 – a story about the dreams and secrets of Helen, the sister of Jānis Akuraters, would be created in dialogues “Helen – mystery and veil dance or“ You slid on the rink… ””.

“Helen. The Mystery and the Veil Dance or “You Glide on the Skating Rink” is a dialogue story where Helena’s youthful dreams, secrets and soul life are revealed in memories and in correspondence with writers Kārlis Krūzs and Jānis Grīns. The role of Helena is played by Ieva Akuratere, but the roles of Kārlis Krūzas and Jānis Green are played by Egils Melbārdis. This story already had a thrilling premiere on the 144th birthday of Jānis Akuraters on January 13, 2020 in a crowded fireplace hall.

Shortly afterwards, another story about Helen Akurater and Frici Ossi was made – “Fights with the Bad …” Auraater’s sister Helena and son-in-law Frič’s playful play, written by Jānis Liepiņš. It is a story about a time when Helen Akuratere and Fricis Osis, who returned from a punishment camp in Siberia, were left alone in Akurater’s house. It is an evening of their lives, when the course of life is moved and evaluated in conversations and memories. Helena Akuratere will be played by Lidija Pupure, and Akurater’s son-in-law Fričs Osh will be played by Ģirts Jakovļevs, music teacher – Ventis Zilberts. With the production of this game, the Jānis Akuraters Museum honors Jānis Liepiņš, who has a significant anniversary this year.

Jānis Liepiņš, as a long-time man from Torņakalns, seems to have seen his heroes in the face, studied materials about them in museums, archives and libraries, so the images and events in the dramatic play of Helena and Frič’s errands are revealed directly and as if present. The Jānis Liepiņš Museum calls doctors, writers and passionate researchers of cultural history Jānis Akuraters his playwright. In 15 years, about ten plays written by J. Liepiņš, which the author has called games, have been staged in the museum’s fireplace hall.

Those interested are also invited to watch the Latvian PEN readings dedicated to the International Day of Prisoners’ Writers on the Facebook account of the Akuratera Museum.

In the 1930s, Jānis Akuraters was the president of the Latvian PEN Club. Currently, the Latvian PEN continues to be active under the leadership of Inga Gaile, and readings of the Latvian PEN take place at the Jānis Akuraters Museum. Also on Museum Night, members of the Latvian PEN Center – writers Inga Gaile, Ilmārs Šlāpins, Dainis Deigelis and Aivars Eipurs – will read poetry on the eve of the International Day of Prisoners, including Belarusian photographer Tatjana Santelera, Turkish poet Ilhan Chomak and Ugandan academician At the end of October, a regional meeting of the Central and Eastern European PEN Centers took place, this time organized online by the Ukrainian PEN, and was also attended by representatives of Latvia.

The 2020 International Museum Night this year was postponed from May to November, like many other cultural events during the Covid-19 emergency.
