Ajax has reached the semi-finals of the UEFA Youth League. In Nyon, France, the Danish FC Midtjylland was sent home with a 1-3 defeat.
Ajax managed to deal cleverly with Atlético Madrid in the eighth final. That happened after a nerve-racking penalty series, in which goalkeeper Daan Reiziger was ultimately the hero with a stopped and used penalty kick.
Ajax’s goals were scored by Christian Rasmussen, Sontje Hansen and debutant Joel Ideho. Midtjylland came back into the game in the second half, it was already 0-2, because Reiziger blundered. He got a pass, but ran it himself over the goal line. Moments later, Ideho put an end to all doubts by scoring a wonder goal three minutes after his substitution. Midtjylland was no longer able to fight back into the game.
The semi-final will be played next Saturday. The opponent of Ajax U19 comes from the match between Dinamo Zagreb and Benfica.
