Airbus cuts thousands of jobs and cuts production

Over the next two years, thousands of jobs will disappear at aircraft maker Airbus due to the crisis in the aviation sector due to the corona virus. The European company also cuts production by 40 percent.

Airbus CEO Guillaume Faury tells German newspaper Die Welt that he has no choice. “We cannot disconnect from developments at airlines.”

Only 40 aircraft of the best-selling model A320 will be built per month. According to Faury, no copper has yet been found for many completed aircraft. The CEO does not expect production to return to its old level until the end of 2021.

It is not yet known exactly how many jobs will disappear. Faury first wants to talk to Airbus employees.
