Air traffic – Frankfurt am Main – airport check: Good safety marks for Bremen’s airport economy

Frankfurt / Main / Bremen (dpa / lni) – The pilots’ union Vereinigung Cockpit (VC) assessed 28 airports in its “Airport Check 2020”, including Hanover and Bremen. For the sixth time in a row, the Bremen location was the best airport in Northern Germany for security equipment with a grade of 1.7 (previous year: 1.7). In the ranking, Bremen Airport Hans Koschnick was third behind Munich and Leipzig (both 1.6 as in the previous year).

The union gave Hanover a grade of 2.5 (previous year 2.5). Hamburg came to 2.8 (2.8), Sylt to 2.6 (2.5), Münster / Osnabrück to 2.0 (2.1), Rostock to 2.4 (2.4) and Heringsdorf (Insel Usedom) to 2.9 (2.9). Among other things, approach and departure conditions on the runways and their arrangement and equipment such as lighting and marking were evaluated.

Overall, the pilots were satisfied with the results. “At this year’s airport check we can see a positive trend: At the same time, there have been some important improvements and no serious deteriorations,” said VC board member Janis Schmitt on Thursday.

A working group of the Cockpit Association has been subjecting German airports to an annual security check since 1978. Regional airports have also been included since 1996, provided that there are significant scheduled services there. A catalog of criteria serves as the basis for the investigation, which includes international regulations as well as the equipment of airports that is sensible from the pilot’s point of view.
