Indonesian men’s doubles Mohammad Ahsan/Hendra Setiawan hope that the junior players can achieve better performance after losing at World Championship Badminton 2023.

Ahsan/Hendra’s steps in the World Championship ended in the quarter-finals, Friday (25/8). In the match that took place at the Royal Arena, Copenhagen, Ahsan/Hendra were defeated by South Korean doubles Kang Min Hyuk/Seo Seung Jae 19-21 and 17-21.

Hendra confirmed that this was his last Badminton World Championships with Ahsan. The 39-year-old player hopes that there will be junior men’s doubles who can replace Ahsan / Hendra to achieve achievements at the Badminton World Championships in 2025.

“Unfortunately, in the first game, we were superior, but after that we wasted a lot of points. Admittedly, the opponent’s game was neater and didn’t make many mistakes,” said Hendra in the official PBSI release.

“I myself have to be realistic, this will be the last World Championship. In 2025 I will be 41 years old. The juniors should take turns to replace me,” said the 2008 Olympic champion.

The same thing was expressed by Ahsan, who together with Hendra became the last Indonesian representative to be able to become a world champion in 2019. The collector of three badminton world titles hopes that Indonesia’s men’s doubles number will rise soon.

“This is the last World Championship for me. Lots of good memories. There were wins and losses. We are grateful to have passed and we were able to finish. Actually there was a target this year to be able to bring a medal. But today we lost. Yes, you have to accept it. When I was little, my dream “My goal is to become a world champion. Thank God, I can achieve it. Appearing at the World Championships will be a beautiful memory for me,” said Ahsan.

“For Indonesian men’s doubles players, you really have to work hard again. It’s just that you have to remember, young players need a process. All Indonesian men’s doubles players are hard workers. I’m sure my junior will be able to rise,” said the 35-year-old player. .

Indonesia only has one in the semifinals of the 2023 Badminton World Championships which takes place today, Saturday (26/8).

Women’s doubles Apriyani Rahayu/Siti Fadia Ramadhanti will face third seeds from South Korea Kim So Yeong/Kong Hee Yong.
