Ahead of Eid al-Adha, more than 5 thousand cows in Lamongan have been injected with PMK vaccines

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.TV – Approaching Eid 1443 Hijri, 5,203 cows in Lamongan, East Java have received the Mouth and Nail Disease (PMK) vaccine.

The cows that have been vaccinated are spread over eight sub-districts in Lamongan, namely Kedungpring, Ngimbang, Sukodadi, Babat, Laren, Kembangbahu, Modo and Sarirejo sub-districts.

This is the statement of the spokesperson for the Lamongan Livestock PMK Task Force, Rahendra, as quoted from Kompas.com, Sunday (3/7/2022).

“As of today (Sunday, July 3, 2022), we have given vaccines to 5,203 cows in Lamongan,” said Rahendra.

According to Rahendra, actually the number of first-stage PMK vaccines received by the Lamongan Regency Government (Pemkab) from the East Java Provincial Government (Pemprov) is 7,000 doses.

He said that currently the Lamongan Regency Government is still focused on completing the first phase of the PMK vaccine injection.

“The first phase will be completed until July 7,” he explained.

Rahendra added that the administration of the vaccine was carried out while waiting for an additional supply of the next vaccine dose from the East Java Provincial Government.

Meanwhile, the implementation of vaccination for cattle in Lamongan involves at least 74 vaccinator officers.

Rahendra said they consisted of veterinarians, employees of the Lamongan Animal Husbandry and Health Service, as well as students from Airlangga University Surabaya and Brawijaya University.

Government Declares PMK Emergency Status

The government has declared an outbreak of Infectious Diseases and Nails (PMK) of livestock as an emergency.

The decision is contained in the Decree of the Head of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) Number 47 of 2022.

The Acting Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information and Communication Center Abdul Muhari explained, the emergency status of the PKM outbreak was effective starting from June 29, 2022, until December 31, 2022.

“With the provision that if in the future there is an error, it will be corrected accordingly,” said Abdul in a written statement, Saturday (2/7/2022).

Abdul explained that the consideration of the state of emergency was due to the increasing number of PKM cases and had spread to 22 provinces.
