Agriculture becomes a practical subject at IES Picasso | Chosen

The Institute of Secondary Education (IES) Pablo Ruiz Picasso of El Ejido is carrying out the construction of a greenhouse inside the centre’s facilities.

It is an initiative that is part of the educational project that this course is developing through the Impulsa program of the Ministry of Education.

With this project, the educational center will try to bring students closer to the main economic activity and engine of the economy of the municipality, the region and the province in general, such as agriculture, but do so from a playful and practical point of view.

The greenhouse has dimensions of 150 square meters and through its use, not only will the processes carried out in agriculture such as sowing, irrigation, fertilization or harvesting, among others, be addressed, but also aspects of present and future such as sustainability and economic factors.

Similarly, the management of the center plans to work in other areas such as research and technology that surrounds the main source of wealth in the municipality,

In this way, one of the main objectives set within this project is that the students of the center be able to understand it, value it and consider it as an option for professional development.

This will be possible through the collaboration of a large part of the social, economic and political agents in the area.

The director of the center, Manuel Esteban Linares, pointed out during the visit of the delegate of Education, Antonio Jiménez, to the center that the idea of the center is that this activity transcends the punctual and becomes permanently integrated into the ordinary operation of the center, “Being one of the most important resources to serve, not only students at risk of exclusion, but the entire educational community, also concerning the entire municipality of El Ejido.”

Esteban Linares added in relation to the subject his conviction that “social transformation will take place if we bring it closer to our students and enable them to be aware that they have the possibility of being agents of that change that will ultimately be their own future.

The role of the farmer

On the other hand, and also related to agriculture, there is one of the activities framed within the Center’s Equality Plan and that has been carried out recently, such as the creation of a space for women who are dedicated to agriculture.

In this way, the students of this ejidense institute, led by the local artist Nauni, have made a colorful graffiti on one of the walls of the IES under the slogan ‘Let’s take care of those who take care of us. To our country women. ‘

A tribute to all those women who contribute decisively to the economic and social development of the municipality.
