Special sat navs and sensors make driving to the field easier
Few companies cultivate ever larger areas. The machines are used industrially. “That drives us to stay ahead with useful innovations,” says Eying and gives another example: “In the past it could happen that a contractor couldn’t find the field or was stopped by an underpass that was too narrow.” since then, special navigation systems and sensors have made driving easier. “We always think first: what will make the farmer’s work easier?” Says Eying. To do this, you have to think outside the box or simplify work processes, explains the 48-year-old, who comes from agriculture himself.
Krone decided to specialize in the mid-1990s. Whether mowing clover, harvesting maize, collecting grass silage – with its machines, the family business is in the top group of manufacturers worldwide.
The machine harvests 14 rows of corn at one time
The products are usually hung on tractors. But the stars are two self-propelled types: the “Big M” mower and the “Big X” forage harvester, the world’s most powerful agricultural machine with 1,156 hp. It’s not just the engines that are “big”: the “Big M” can cut grass over a width of 13 meters, the “Big X” can harvest 14 rows of maize at once.
Such numbers create pride not only among farmers but also among employees of the manufacturer. That contributes to the company’s attractiveness as an employer, says Eying: “Our employees identify strongly with the company. That motivates them and drives them on. “
