Agreement on the multi-annual budget and on energy aid for families, self-employed workers and businesses

There is also agreement on the tax on excess profits of energy producers. This will be done retrospectively.

Between January 1 and November 1, these excess profits will be taxed at € 180 per MWh, after which at 130 MWh until June. This is stricter than what Europe is proposing. It also left open the possibility of extending the excess profit tax.

Next year the operator of the Fluxys gas network will have to pay a contribution of 300 million euros. And the oil sector is also expected to raise € 300 million a year. In total, these measures would lead to around € 3 billion (in the original proposal by Energy Minister Tinne Van der Straeten (Groen) it was € 4.7 billion).

The energy subsidy for private homes previously decided by the federal government – the so-called “basic package” of 200 euros – will be extended until the end of March.

In order to protect companies from being too burdened by the jump in the January index, in the first two quarters of next year, the employer contribution for indexed wages will be almost completely eliminated, a measure that will cost about 1 billion EUR. For the last two quarters there is a postponement to 2025.
