Brussels Airlines is already getting a new CEO

From 1 March, Peter Gerber will become the new CEO of Brussels Airlines. He succeeds Dieter Vranckx, who has just been CEO of the Belgian airline for a year.

The German Peter Gerber (56) is currently CEO of Lufthansa Cargo. The intention is that he will move to Belgium in March and take over from Dieter Vranckx.

Vranckx joined Brussels Airlines in May 2018 as CFO. He was CEO of the Belgian airline since January 2020. From January 1, 2021, he will take over the management of Swiss, which, like Brussels Airlines, is part of the Lufthansa Group. This means that Brussels Airlines is getting a new CEO after just one year. Peter Gerber will also defend the interests of the Lufthansa Group at the European level.

Historical loss

‘Brussels Airlines has many assets and together with the management and all 3,500 employees I look forward to further developing the strengths of the company while increasing our competitiveness and making our way of working future-proof’, says Peter Gerber in a press release.

Gerber, who has been with Lufthansa since 1992, will continue the restructuring plan ‘Reboot Plus’. Brussels Airlines is suffering a historic loss due to the corona pandemic. By accelerating the savings plan (and reducing the fleet by 30 percent), a slimmed-down Brussels Airlines hopes to compete again from the second quarter. As part of that savings plan, a quarter of the jobs will also be cut – about 1,000 in total.
