Agnieszka Radwańska can play in the Super League

– It would be a real hit! Agnieszka Radwańska will resume her tennis career? Even if it were only to be played in women’s doubles in one of the clubs of the Polish Super League, the information that Interia has received sounds almost sensational. As we found out, it is very likely that the former runner-up in the WTA ranking will play in Mera Warszawa next season. Thus, 32-year-old Radwanska, currently living in the capital, would resume her career playing at domestic courts after less than four years.

However, this is not the end of the unexpected information we have received. Iga Świątek, currently the fourth women’s tennis racket in the world, is going to play in Legia Warszawa, which is to be entered into the Super League. It was in the club from Łazienkowska that raszynianka gained her tennis skills and it would be her return to Legia with a contract for matches in the Super League. The Polish woman would appear in them on dates that would not conflict with her playing in the WTA tour.

– There are very good chances that Agnieszka Radwańska will play in the Super League. In this league there will be, among others double games of women, there will be a mix, so here the field opens up to her as much as possible. Agnieszka is a mother, but like Marta Domachowska, who recently appeared at the Polish championship, she is active in sports and tennis. We are aware that her participation in the competition would significantly increase the prestige of our project – Mirosław Skrzypczyński tells us.

According to our information, it is possible that her sister Urszula and Marta Domachowska will also play in the club from Ochota in Warsaw together with Agnieszka Radwańska. It is quite possible that on Polish courts we will also see, among others Jerzy Janowicz trying to return to tennis.

An extremely interesting project will start next year. On May 22, the Polish Tennis Super League will begin, and three lower classes will also be created, the 1st, 2nd and 3rd League. Each will be made up of eight teams, and matches are to be played only on Sunday. All teams will play seven matches in the regular season, there will be no rematch due to the participation of tennis players also in individual tournaments. The host of the matches will be selected by lot.

32 teams consisting of four players, two women and two men will join the four leagues. Each round there will be two matches of tennis players in a singles game, a men’s and women’s doubles match, and in the event of a 3-3 draw, a mixed match.

At the moment, participation in the Super League is ensured, if they want to play in the competition, there are six clubs that took the first six places during last year’s Polish team championship, they are: Górnik Bytom, Beskidzki Klub Tenisowy Advantage Bielsko-Biała, AZS Poznań, CKT Kozerki Grodzisk Mazowiecki, Olimpia Poznań and Olsza Kraków. The super league will be completed by two teams with the highest total tennis player ranking at the moment, who will be contracted by individual clubs. The ranking of a given team will be known after completing the squads. The process of submitting teams for the tournament will start on November 15, from that day it will be possible to make transfers. According to our information, the desire to build a strong team is, among others, multiple Polish champion, City Tennis Club in Łódź.

– It will be a classic professional league. They are similar in Germany, the Czech Republic, France and Italy. However, we will have a slightly wider formula. At the end of the season, there will be a final round consisting of four queues for the national championship and four for relegation. Two teams will be relegated to the lower class. It will be similar in the lower leagues, the first four will fight for promotion to the higher class and the last four for maintenance – the president of PZT tells us.

– This is a project that was needed and lacked in Polish tennis. It is made so that clubs can develop, so that they can raise funds for youth training, so that more and more people are attracted to playing tennis. Now, we usually have Sundays off in the country, so I hope that this formula will be adopted. People will be able to spend time on the court, league matches can be accompanied by all sorts of special events. It will be a kind of family picnic during which everyone will find something for themselves. Our ambition is for the best players in the world to play in the league and I think it will happen – adds Mirosław Skrzypczyński.

As Interia found out, the title sponsor of the league will be announced on November 15 at a special press conference. The games will also be supported by other sponsors.

– The group of sponsors in the Polish Tennis Association is wide, and this project will certainly attract more. It will be a rich league, so I hope that we will really see the best tennis players in the professional tour. This is our ambition and I think it will be possible. For clubs it will be a financially attractive project, they will receive appropriate remuneration for taking the right place. There is no limit to contracting foreign players to clubs, it will be the Open league. We know there is a lot of interest in the league on the part of players. The team building process must be completed before the end of this year, it is quite possible that foreign stars will also play in the league – Mirosław Skrzypczyński tells us.

As a reminder, Grupa LOTOS has been the strategic sponsor of the Polish Tennis Association since February 2019.

The creation of a professional league is not the only project currently absorbing the Polish Tennis Association. Between August and September next year, the PZT Training Center in Kozerki at the Tenis Kozerki Tennis Academy should be put into use. National teams – senior and youth will train in the Center built in the Grodzisk Mazowiecki commune near Warsaw. DavisCup and FedCup matches. In Kozerki there will be clay and hard courts, as well as a hall with four hard courts. The central court will have a brick surface and stands for 500 people. It will be possible to enlarge it to three thousand places, the facility is to meet the ITF standards.

This year, the Polish Tennis Association is celebrating its 100th anniversary. At the end of the round jubilee, on December 10-11, a friendly match between Poland and the Czech Republic will be played in Zielona Góra. The cadre of our southern neighbors includes, among others Petra Kvitova, Katarina Sinakova, Marketa Vondrousova, Jiri Vesely and Lukas Rosol.

The final line-up of Poland should be known soon, however, according to Interia’s information, Zielona Góra will surely include: Jerzy Janowicz, Kamil Majchrzak, Kacper Żuk, Magda Linette and Magdalena Fręch. Efforts are being made to ensure that Iga Świątek also plays in the friendly match, because this match is also to be treated as one of the elements of preparation for the performance of our women’s national team in the Billy Jean King Cup matches next year.

Last Saturday, Mirosław Skrzypczyński was elected president of the PZT for another, second term of office.
