‘Agent (41) was rightly fired after leaking sex apps from the manager’ Inland

According to the court in The Hague, the chief officer was rightly dismissed by the police after she gave access to her app traffic to a journalist from the NRC newspaper. A team chief in the Haarlemmermeer, her supervisor, had suggested anal sex to her, among other things.

By going to the media, she gave away “confidential police information”, which has “significantly damaged the image of the organization and the trust in Plaintiff (chief officer).” Agents have a duty of confidentiality.

On the other hand, the 51-year-old team chief – who leads more than 140 officers – was wrongly sent to prison by the police, the judge ruled. He was expelled for his dealings with the female subordinate and appealed. He at least twice sent sexually explicit WhatsApp messages to the woman. “Unlawful and inappropriate,” the court said, but: “Too disproportionate to the nature and seriousness of the dereliction of duty established. In that judgment, the court takes into account, among other things, his excellent track record of thirty years as a police officer.”

‘Death blow whistleblowers’

The woman has to say goodbye to the police because of the verdict. She tells NRC she feels “extremely unfairly” treated. Her lawyer calls the judgment “the death knell for whistleblowers within the police.” The team chief involved does not want to respond to the newspaper.
