The legends from the group “Agate” present their concert to the people of Plovdiv. The event will take place tonight on the stage of the Youth Hill with free admission. The start is at 20:00.

“Agate” is a Bulgarian rock band, founded in the fall of 1986. Their first documented performance in front of an audience was on December 22 of the same year. After several participations in festivals, “Agate” was chosen as a warm-up group on the anniversary tour of “The Crickets”. This gives a powerful impetus to the development of the young band.

In 1988 “Agate” recorded the song “Black Sheep”, which to this day remains one of the brightest emblems of Bulgarian heavy metal. In the summer of the following year, the band released their debut album “The March”.

In the early 90’s they decided to try their luck in the Netherlands. There they participate in a Yamaha competition, making English versions of some of their songs. They are ranked fifth (out of about 500 participants), but are disqualified because the competition is only for Benelux groups. Unfortunately, the group then disbanded.

After a several-year break, in 1998, the band reunited to open the Sofia concerts of the legendary Deep Rurple. The band has already changed its composition – the main composer and guitarist Bozhidar Glavev abandons rock and finds harmony in religion. They then went to America to record their next studio project.

They reissued “The March” on CD in 2003. On June 14, 2003, “Agate” played in front of more than 10,000 people at the Academic Stadium, where they warmed up the audience for Whitesnake. , when they embarked on a major national tour for the first time since 1991. His concerts have been released as a documentary DVD film.

The album “Made in USA” was officially released on the market in the format of a multimedia CD, cassette, video cassette and DVD on May 19, 2004. In 2004 “Agate” participated together with “Control” and “The Crickets” in Golden BG Rock Tour – a large-scale national tour that passes through sixteen major Bulgarian cities.

In 2005, the band played with Black Sabbath in front of over 15,000 spectators. On the last day of 2006, on the occasion of Bulgaria’s accession to the European Union, “Agate” have a joint concert with DIO.

In 2017, the band members living in Bulgaria embark on a jubilee tour around the country with guest musicians from Analgin and special guest Joe Lynn Turner. In the autumn of 2018, “Agate” celebrates the 30th anniversary of the release of “The March” with a big concert in Hall 1 of the National Palace of Culture.

The group’s performance is part of the “Agate-Evolution” project, which is implemented with the financial support of the “One-Year Program for Support of Private Professional Organizations in the Field of Arts 2020” of the National Culture Fund.

The concert in Plovdiv is held with the support of the Municipality of Plovdiv and is free for Plovdiv residents and guests.
