Again, SpaceX to Launch Next Moon Crew to ISS

Lindgren and Cristoforetti have both been to space before. Meanwhile, the Crew-4 mission will mark the first trip for Hines and Watkins.

Reported from Digital Trends, Monday (7/3/2022), preparations involved simulated exercises aboard the Crew Dragon spacecraft simulator featuring realistic hardware, displays and seats for flight. Crew Dragon training includes familiarizing yourself with routine tasks but also, more importantly, learning how to deal with unexpected situations aboard the spacecraft such as system failures.

“Commander Lindgren and pilot Hines took their place in the middle seat, with access to a flight view that they would use to monitor the status of the spacecraft and, if necessary, take manual control of the spacecraft,” NASA said.

The four crew members have also traveled aboard SpaceX’s Dragon recovery ship, which will be used to collect astronauts after landing at the end of their mission later this year. The astronauts were also given a tour of the SpaceX hangar where the reusable Falcon 9 rocket was refurbished and readied for flight.

The April 4 Crew mission will take place 20 months after SpaceX’s first crewed flight that saw NASA astronauts Doug Hurley and Bob Behnken use the Crew Dragon spacecraft to travel to and from the space station on the Demo-2 test mission.

After a successful maiden mission, SpaceX sent four Crew-1 astronauts to the ISS for a six-month stay in November 2020.
