In the wake of the global movement against racism, brands are taking stock of their practices. Recently, the L’Oréal cosmetics group insisted on making amends.
In a press release published in English on Saturday June 27, the brand announced “remove the words white / whitening (white / whitening), clear (fair / fairness, light / lightening) of all its products intended to standardize the skin “. The French giant cosmetics did not give more details, in particular on an immediate withdrawal or not of the rays.
After these announcements, a boycott campaign was launched on Twitter. The hashtag #JarreteLoreal has quickly climbed into trends France social network. Internet users film themselves throwing their L’Oréal product in the trash. A video, liked more than a thousand times, shows a tanning product that ends up in the basket. “If L’Oréal no longer wants whites … I don’t want them to make me tan anymore!”, Writes the internet user.
A bad buzz that some users don’t understand. “Boycott L’Oréal for real reasons, animal testing, its investments considerably in Israel, a state that practices apartheid and colonialism … And not for words withdrawn from its products …”, writes another surfer, who calls himself vegan.
