After Clevershuttle-Aus in three cities: Will the service continue in Leipzig and Dresden?

Problems with the authorities and too much competition. This is how the relatively young Clevershuttle driver service explains its immediate withdrawal from the cities of Hamburg, Frankfurt / Main and Stuttgart. A message that caused a sensation. Precisely because the company only uses electric vehicles and other green drive technologies. The vehicles of the Berlin company have been on the road in Leipzig since 2016 and in Dresden since 2018. MDR SACHSEN therefore asked whether Clevershuttle is also struggling with problems in the Free State.

Positive development in Leipzig and Dresden

There are currently no problems in Saxony, company spokesman Fabio Adlassnigg explains: “CleverShuttle is very satisfied with the development here. In Leipzig, for example, CleverShuttle will already be profitable this winter,” says Adlassnigg. There is also a very encouraging development in Dresden. However, Clevershuttle does not want to provide specific figures on passenger volumes and employees.

Decisive for the withdrawal in Frankfurt and Stuttgart were missing permits from the cities. In Frankfurt Clevershuttle would not have made a profit, in Stuttgart it would only have been able to offer trips at certain times of the day. With such conditions and a lack of permits, there are no problems in Saxony. “The Passenger Transportation Act gives local authorities a lot of leeway,” said the company spokesman. “The cities of Leipzig and Dresden use this leeway in favor of green mobility.”

This means that the cities support offers such as Clevershuttle and do not restrict them with additional requirements.

What is ridesharing?
Clevershuttle has been offering the so-called
Ridesharing, in which several passengers with a similar destination
be collected from the route and share the journey. Drivers are employees of the company itself. Customers can book the service using an app. You enter the start and destination there
and get information about route, price and location of the pickup. This is usually on the next street corner or even on your own doorstep. The vehicle fleet consists of electric and hydrogen cars.

Hardly emission-free competition in Saxony

In addition, the market in Leipzig and Dresden is manageable. “We are actually the only provider here that offers emission-free ride sharing,” says Adlassnig. Customers therefore do not have to worry about the future of Clevershuttle in Saxony. On the contrary: The company plans to strengthen and expand the locations.
