After arrests for torture, 47 new guards at Beccaria

(ANSA) – MILAN, 05 MAY – There are 47 penitentiary police officers arriving within the next week in the Beccaria prison in Milan, at the center of the investigation by the Prosecutor’s Office into alleged torture and attacks on some young prisoners who, a couple of weeks ago, led to the imprisonment and suspension of 21 guards. The Department for Juvenile Justice led by Antonio Sangermano, who in the imminence of the arrests had announced the intervention to restore “legality and human dignity”. The Department for Juvenile Justice, immediately after the execution of the precautionary custody orders, sent a special emergency team made up of about fifteen agents to stem the emergency and the serious shortage of staff. But in the next few days, 47 units will arrive in place of this team: 25 ‘diverted’ to juvenile prison by the External Criminal Enforcement Office of Lombardy and another 22 will be applied by the Dap following a regional request. In addition to this, in the Milanese penitentiary once considered a model throughout Italy, the staff of educators and psychologists will also be strengthened. (HANDLE).
