The three young women who were taken off a train in Ghent Sint-Pieters on Wednesday after a report about the monkey pox virus, have left the hospital. The doctors assume a different condition, even though the official test result is not yet known.

After a notification of a possible monkeypox infection On Wednesday, a train was stopped at Gent Sint-Pieters station. Three young women were taken off the train because they did not have a ticket. During the check, there were possible symptoms of the monkey pox virus, after which the entire train was stopped in the station and the pre-alarm of the medical intervention plan was declared.

On Thursday afternoon, the women were allowed to leave the UZ Gent, where they had been taken for a check-up. “Doctors in the hospital meanwhile made a different diagnosis, which is much more plausible,” says Joris Moonens of the Agency for Care and Health. “Everything indicates that it is not about the monkeypox virus, but about another skin condition.”

Official test results are not expected until the day, so the women will be monitored further. “But there is no risk of infection, the condition does not pose a danger to the other passengers on the train,” says Moonens.
