After a month, yellow vests took to the streets, 193 people were detained

The organizers of the demonstrations hope that thousands of people will take part in fresh protests in various cities in France. In parts of the center of Paris, such as on the main avenue of the Champs-Elysées, the police banned the demonstration. Some metro stations have also been temporarily closed.

Protesters gathered in two squares of Paris on Saturday and set out on police-approved marches. Security forces stepped in tear gas as participants in one of the parades deviated from the marked route, and some of them set fire to trash cans and a car.

Anti-government protests by the Yellow Vests began in November 2018. 280,000 people came to the first demonstration, but public support gradually declined. Part of the requirements of the yellow vests were taken over by trade unions, who paralyzed the operation in France at the turn of last year and this year. They especially did not like the planned pension reform. With the pandemic and the national quarantine that began in France in mid-March, their voices fell silent.

Resumed protests come at a time when France is facing a second wave of contagion. On Thursday, French authorities recorded nearly 10,000 new cases of covid-19.
