What was it about? One of the fans wrote to him on Cavani’s Spanish instagram account “Asi te queiro, Matador” (I love you, Matador). To Cavani answered “Gracias, negrito”. And that is the problem. In translation, it means roughly “Thank you, Negro.”
And it is the term “negrito” that is interpreted in England as highly racist and offensive. The FA has already said that it knows about the issue and will address it.
Three hours after its publication, Cavani deleted the post, saying that the word “negrito” has a completely different meaning in South America, its use is said to be an expression of love and affection.

In this context, fans will, of course, remember a similar case of Cavani’s compatriot Luis Suárez, who during his engagement in Liverpool similarly described Manchester United defender Patrice Evra, for which he fined a £ 40,000 fine and an eight-match penalty.
Suarez later defended himself in his book by not being aware of the cultural difference from the Spanish-speaking world. “You can say Negro to anyone with dark hair as well as with dark skin, and I’ve used that word all my life. Even my wife often calls me “Negro” or (a finer variant) “Negrito”. My grandmother used to say that to my grandfather and sometimes to me as well, “Suárez explained.
However, before the season, the FA issued clear rules on racism and discrimination, according to which any racist and discriminatory comments on social networks will lead to at least three-match penalties. If such conduct occurs directly on the court, the culprit will serve a penalty of six to twelve matches.
