After a “blow to anti-Corona efforts” … resignations at the Turkish Ministry of Health

Turkish Health Ministry officials submitted their resignations, on Saturday, after the panic that swept the country, after the Turkish Interior Ministry announced a curfew.

The streets of Turkish cities were covered on Friday night, with thousands of citizens, who went out for shopping before entering most of the country’s provinces in a comprehensive curfew for 48 hours, in a surprising measure to contain the spread of the new Corona virus.

Anarchy prevailed in most areas due to the panic caused by the decision. And videos spread on social networking sites for quarrels among citizens in front of the doors of the shops, which were filled with shopping, following the decision broadcast by the official media.

In protest of the decision that caused the panic, most members of the Science Committee of the Turkish Ministry of Health submitted their resignations, which were rejected by Health Minister Fakhruddin Kuja, according to Yeni Chag.

And the Turkish “Ahwal” website pointed out that the social divergence policies had disappeared after the announcement of the curfew, when markets, bakeries, gas stations, and money exchange machines were filled with citizens who did not wear masks or protective gloves.

Resigned committee members saw the massive gatherings as a blow to efforts to combat the emerging corona virus, which infected nearly 52,000 as of Sunday, and had caused the death of 1,100 people.

And “Yeni Chag” said that authorities in the ministry tried to discourage the committee members from resigning, saying: “If you resign, you will be reminded that you abandoned Turkey in its war against the Corona virus.”

The Turkish newspaper quoted the head of the science committee at the ministry, Tawfiq Ozlo, as saying that Turkey was managing the crisis well until the announcement of the curfew on Friday, and the country will witness the results of people taking to the streets in the coming weeks.

It is worth noting that the Science Committee is made up of a group of experts, charged of the Ministry of Health with setting standards and procedures to track the epidemic in Turkey.
