Astrid from Amsterdam was hesitant to say the least when a friend emailed her a link with a registration form for the RTL-4 wedding program Married at First Sight. Thirteen years ago she divorced her first husband, after which she was in a relationship for another four years. Astrid would rather spend time with family and friends than reunite with a man, also because she was unable to hook one. Attempts to score a new love in the pub, through dating sites and a single weekend had been fruitless. Yet she signed up for the program. It soon became apparent that there was a match with candidate Sander, who, as the crux of the program prescribes, saw them for the first time during their yes in Slot Zeist. ‘I immediately thought Sander was a cheerful, fun, spontaneous man.
no butterflies
However, there were no butterflies, not even during the honeymoon and living together afterwards. Sander therefore wanted to divorce after three weeks. Astrid thought correctly: we just met, we are now going to discover each other. But Sander stuck to his decision, much to Astrid’s disappointment.
