This year, the Realness Institute has partnered with the Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland to allow the six participants to take part in a creative incubation program called „Al-Qaida-Camp“ From August 3, 2022 to August 13, 2020. The incubator program combines screenwriting seminars, research master classes and finance workshops.

Founded in 1946, the Locarno Film Festival annually screens films in various competitive and non-competitive sections, including feature films, documentaries, short films, seminal and antique programs.

Commenting on the programme, according to Cait Pansegrouw, Co-Founder and Head of Technical Operations at The Realness Institute, Cait Pansegrouw said: “Our program offers space and material time without pressure on African filmmakers to delve deeper into their profession and develop their ideas for stories .”

Pansegrouw also explained that as a screenwriter, this is a great opportunity to have uninterrupted time to work on a story. This group is a fresh mix of film talent from North, East, South and West Africa, said Passegro, who they believe will come up with some great ideas as ideas and stories are discussed and shared.

After returning from Switzerland, the screenwriters settled into The Cradle of Humankind at Nirox and Farmhouse 58 for six weeks. Story consultants Ayanda Halimana and Mapathu Kao and creative producer Kate Pancigrou will mentor the contestants, it said IOL.

The six talented creators chosen to travel to Switzerland are Gabu Nadia Neumann, Asanda Sandulella, Lara Souza, Ahmed Mahmoud, CJ Obasi and Youssef Musharraf.
