Dhaka: Afghanistan wrote history by winning the ODI series against Bangladesh. They made the victory doubly sweet with a huge win in the second ODI. And the record performance of the openers Rahmanullah Gurbaz-Ibrahim Zadran partnership, which is full of century performances, also contributed to the victory. Afghanistan achieved a historic feat by winning the three-match series 2-0.

Afghanistan, who batted first, posted an excellent total of 331 runs for the loss of nine wickets in the stipulated over. But without even bothering to put up a fight, Bangladesh surrendered on its own soil. Their struggle ended with just 189 runs in 43.2 overs.

Bangladesh had to face a massive defeat of 142 runs. They also had to bear the brunt of the embarrassment of Bangladesh’s heaviest defeat by runs against Afghanistan on home soil. The fact that after 2015 they have lost only the third match on their own soil also enhances the value of Afghan excellence.

The openers Gurbaz and Zadran gave the team a brilliant start of 256 runs. The remaining 75 runs were found by the eight batters who came out later!

Gurbaz scored 145 runs off 125 balls and became the top scorer. Zadran scored 100 runs off 119 balls. Gurbaz played an innings studded with 13 fours and eight huge sixes. Zadran hit nine fours and a six.

This is the 21-year-old Gurbaz’s fourth ODI century. This is also the star’s personal best score. This is also the fourth ODI century of 21-year-old Ibrahim Zadran.

The duo’s combined 256 runs also holds the record for Afghanistan’s highest batting partnership for any wicket. The previous record was 218 runs for the second wicket by Karim Sadiq and Mohammad Shahzad in 2010. This performance was against Scotland.

This became the second best performance by an Afghan batsman across all formats. Asghar Afghan and Hashmatullah Shahidi scored 307 runs in the second innings of the Test match against Zimbabwe.

Another record was achieved by the alliance. The performance also became the fourth-best wicket-taking partnership by a team against Bangladesh. Virat Kohli-Ishan Kishan’s partnership of 290 runs scored last year is the first. The performance also became the second best opening partnership by a team against Bangladesh.

The performance of Nabi Muhammad who remained unbeaten on 25 runs among those who arrived after both of them were dismissed was remarkable. The player scored 25 runs off 15 balls with a six and a four. Najibullah Zadran, who scored ten runs, was the other person who crossed the double figure.

Mustafizur Rahman, Hasan Mahmud, Shakib Al Hasan and Mehdi Hasan took two wickets each for Bangladesh. Ebdod Hussain took a wicket.

Batting for a huge target, Bangladesh did not attempt to win at any stage. With the strength of spin-pace bowling, the Afghan bowlers thrashed the Bangladeshi batters.

Only Mushfiqur Rahim, who scored 69 runs off 85 balls, showed the will to fight. Shakib and Mehdi found 25 runs each but could not go much further. No one else put up much resistance.

Captain Litan Das initiated the crash. The player fell for 13 runs. Later they lost wickets continuously. They lost six wickets in 72 runs. There was an impression that the score would not even cross 100. Later, Mushfiqar’s save in the seventh wicket with Mehdi Hasan reduced the weight of their loss. Both of them put on a partnership of 87 runs. Mehdi took 48 balls.

Fazlhaq Farooqui and Mujeeb Rahman took three wickets each for Afghanistan. Magical spinner Rashid Khan’s nine overs were crucial in the game. The player conceded only 28 runs and took two wickets. Muhammad Nabi took a wicket.
