South Africa will not be able to accept refugees from Afghanistan who took refuge from the Taliban in Pakistan and seek asylum in South Africa. A significant number of refugees already live in the country, South African authorities said.

As stated in the Department of International Relations and Cooperation of South Africa, recently began to receive applications from Afghan refugees who took refuge from the Taliban in Pakistan. “The request is to be placed in South Africa,” the ministry said.
They clarified that the South African government cannot satisfy these applications, since a significant number of refugees already live in the country.
The ministry added that it is better for Afghan refugees to stay in the first host country – Pakistan.
