Aerolineas Argentinas, one of the most ruinous airlines in the world, announced this Friday that starting August 10 it will stop operating the route between Buenos Aires and New York. Since the arrival of the new management, this is the second major modification of its flight plan, after operations to Havana were suspended, with virtually no passengers.

The policy of the new management of Aerolíneas, whose ultimate objective is state disinvestment in the company, is to reduce losses and focus on few routes with demand, which is why it will focus on serving services to Miami and Madrid as a priority, for a side, and vacation routes in the Caribbean. (Aerolíneas Argentinas opened a voluntary retirement for 8,000 employees)

The airline, which has never made a profit in recent history, in a fight with Alitalia and South African Airways, has acknowledged that between the months of February and March of this year alone the route to New York showed losses of $250,000.

Airlines, however, will continue selling tickets to New York, but to fly with the American Delta in a shared code.

The new Argentine government of Javier Milei intends to divest the company as soon as its operations are stabilized. The Aerolineas unions are absolutely controlled by the Peronist movement and La Cámpora, a radical branch of this party.
