The German Association of Physicians Treating Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) has confirmed that this disorder is a psychological disorder that begins in childhood and may continue into adulthood.

She stated that the causes of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder are not precisely known, but doctors believe that genetic and neurochemical factors interact and lead to changes in the brain. Changes occur in the process of transporting dopamine in the areas responsible for memory and learning.

Some factors also increase the risk of developing attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, such as smoking, drinking alcohol, or using drugs during pregnancy.

In childhood, the main symptoms of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder are lack of attention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity. Consequently, children have difficulty concentrating, are easily distracted, and are more anxious, neglectful, and less patient than other children.

The characteristic symptoms often disappear in adults and are replaced by severe internal disturbance, nervous tension, irritability, difficulty in controlling impulses, in addition to difficulty in organizational and time planning, which is manifested, for example, in difficulty in keeping appointments.

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder is treated with medications and psychotherapy such as behavioral therapy.
