TANJUNG REDEB – The Berau Health Office (Dinkes) continues to carry out examinations and record data on people suffering from cataracts. This was conveyed by the Head of Health Services, Berau Health Office, Jimmy Adrian.

According to the latest data, there are at least 202 mature cataract patients who, according to the examination, can undergo cataract removal surgery. The data was collected from 15 Community Health Centers (Puskesmas) in Berau.

“There were 202 patients recorded from 15 existing puskesmas. Those in the interior are indeed not complete,” he explained, Monday (10/7/2023).

As a service provider in the health sector, the Health Office routinely screens people suffering from cataracts. From this data, it is usually a type of cataract that is ready for surgery, even if there are certain circumstances, this is a special note.

“If there are other things that are already like that,” he said.

For its classification, mature cataract is a condition characterized by a change in the color of the lens to become opaque or whitish in color so that it interferes with vision.

Jimmy explained, eye conditions that had not reached the Mature Cataract phase or had been marked by a whitish eye lens color could not be carried out by cataract removal surgery.

“If cataracts are immature, they cannot be operated on. Cataracts are degenerative results and other processes, including hypertension,” he said.

The implementation of cataract surgery itself is assessed to restore one’s vision ability. So that in carrying out daily activities can be comfortable.

“Hopefully the results of the operation can be maximized later,” he explained.

From the results of routine inspections carried out by the Berau Health Office, the data is also entered and submitted to the Ministry of Health. So, if on its way it becomes a national priority treatment scale, cataract removal surgery will be carried out.

“We routinely collect data and data from the ministry. If the ministry becomes a priority, there will be cataract surgery in the future,” he explained.

Health is the main key for activities. It has been (done) from the past, from the puskesmas the program continues to be screened,” he concluded. (dez)
