“Actress Olga Dreģe’s 85th Birthday: The Story of Her Unforgettable Contribution to Latvian Theater and Cinema Art”

Popular theater and cinema actress Olga Dreģe celebrated her 85th birthday on March 1.

The actress has many awards for her stage performance. Dreģe has been nominated for and received “Spēlmaņu nakts” awards several times, including in 2016 the actress received the “Spēlmaņu nachts” award for lifetime achievement, in 2003 Dreģe received the Lilit Bērzina award, the actress has been awarded the Order of Three Stars. As a true local patriot, the actress also has the highest award of the Madona region – the honorary diploma and badge of honor of the municipality of Madona region “for a bright and unforgettable contribution to Latvian theater and cinema art, for the love of Madona region and her native Sarkaņi parish and its praise”.

When Dreģe won the “Players’ Night” award for his lifetime contribution to theater art, the head of the Theater Museum, Jānis Siliņš, together with his new colleagues, planted a paradise apple tree dedicated to her in the garden of the Smilģi Museum.

And she especially highlights this gift: “If my apple tree grows in Smilģa’s garden, then I don’t need a bigger prize.”

Olga Dreģe was born on the side of Madona, in Sarkani parish. In 1962, she completed the third studio of the Daile Theater and has been an actress at the Daile Theater since 1961, but has been participating in performances since 1958.
