The actor Max von Sydow is dead. The Swede, who has been a French citizen since 2002, passed away at the age of 90, as his widow told Paris Match magazine. The mime shot with greats like Ingmar Bergman and was known to a younger audience through appearances in “Star Wars” or “Game of Thrones”.
He was born Carl Adolf von Sydow on April 10, 1929 in Lund, Sweden. He first found his artistic home on the theater stage before turning to the cinema. He worked with Bergman for the first time for “The Seventh Seal”, later followed by films such as “Wild Strawberries”, “The Hour of the Wolf” or “Shame”, which made Sydow internationally known. In Hollywood, the character actor eventually turned “The Exorcist” or embodied the James Bond opponent Blofeld in “Never say never”.
