Action in Karlsfeld – blood for people in need – Dachau

A good year has passed since the district association of the Bavarian Red Cross (BRK) Dachau offered the opportunity to donate blood in Karlsfeld. Now the water watch has taken over. The team did not expect great demand. But 173 donors took part, 49 of them for the first time. In addition, 16 donors have also registered for the Bavarian bone marrow donation campaign.

The blood donation campaign no longer takes place in the community center, but in the elementary school on Krenmoosstrasse. This place has proven to be more suitable. The water rescue service was supported by the Rapid Task Force (SEG) team. Local group leader Andreas Fichtl had offered the support of his swimmers, as the water rescue workers are less busy in winter. With success: the donors were even able to book their desired date in advance online and didn’t have to wait long.

“All of our donors are enthusiastic about the online registration,” says Fichtl. Blood can even be drawn from spontaneous donors. “Thanks to the ease of planning, 13 additional donors who were not registered could be looked after. Thus, each donor could leave the blood donation after about 30 to 45 minutes,” reported Melanie Fritsch from the Karlsfeld water rescue service.

In the long term, the offer in the district municipalities is to be expanded, announced the district manager of the BRK Paul Polyfka. “We would like to offer a donor alternative options should he or she not be able to keep an appointment.”

The BRK district chairman and member of the state parliament Bernhard Seidenath (CSU) also emphasizes: “Those who donate blood help seriously ill people. Even and especially in times of Corona we urgently need blood products. I am therefore extremely pleased that our offer has been so successful.”

The action would not have been possible without the volunteers. “Even if blood is thicker than water, all in all it was a very successful premiere for us water watchers,” said Melanie Fritsch from the water watch.

Anyone who feels healthy, is over 18 years old and would like to help with their blood donation themselves can find out more at www.drk-blutspende.de and make an appointment. The donation itself only takes a few minutes; the recording of the donor data, your registration, the medical examination and the recovery phase after the donation must take about an hour in total. However, this hour could save the life of a person in need, the Red Cross members point out.
